Questions Faith & Reason

Did evolution disprove creation?

Many people believe evolutionary theory removes the need for a Creator. Others believe creation and natural processes can exist together under God's design. Scripture teaches that God is the source of all life and creation.

Why people ask this question

Scientific theories about biological development and the origin of species have led some to conclude that creation accounts are symbolic or unnecessary. The Bible presents God as the Creator of life and the universe.

The Bible teaches that God is the Creator of all life

Genesis 1:27 (KJV)

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

Genesis 2:7 (KJV)

And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Scripture teaches that God designed the natural order

Colossians 1:16 (KJV)

For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

Hebrews 11:3 (KJV)

Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

Scripture teaches that creation reveals God’s power

Romans 1:20 (KJV)

For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

Human knowledge is limited

Job 38:4 (KJV)

Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.

Isaiah 55:8–9 (KJV)

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
