Questions Christian Living

How do you pray if you have never prayed before?

Many people feel uncertain or nervous about praying for the first time. Scripture teaches that prayer is simply talking to God honestly and sincerely. The Bible shows that God welcomes people who come to Him with genuine hearts, regardless of experience or background.

Why people ask this question

Some people believe prayer requires special words, religious language, or spiritual experience. The Bible presents prayer as communication with God that can be simple, honest, and personal.

Prayer is speaking honestly to God

Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.

Psalm 62:8 (KJV)

Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.

Jesus gave a model example of prayer

Matthew 6:9–13 (KJV)

After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

God listens to sincere prayer

Hebrews 4:16 (KJV)

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
